Lean Thinking

Lean thinking is part of the fabric of FI Innovations.

In 2012, FI Innovations  strengthened its Lean Thinking journey by undertaking a lean manufacturing program through a Venture Southland initiative focusing on four key processes.

  • Visual management and communication
  • Our future state process map with critical process milestones
  • Change management & Opportunities for Improvement
  • Workplace management, or more commonly known as 5S

By focusing on quality, cost, delivery, safety and morale FI Innovations increased efficiency by up to 30 percent, delivering better products to customers and a better bottom line for the business.

The concept and simple principles of a workplace management plan could be applied to any business. For FI Innovations it was as simple as cutting out the “frustrating process” of searching for tools and information about jobs.

Before workers started a job, information was recorded and passed along the various channels of communication.

“Everything flows and is accountable, which has improved the business immensely.”

Because all projects are logged and tracked from day one at all times we know exactly what stage a job is at, and when it will be completed.
